Riding up and over the bluff, Chet viewed the grazing bison. Herds of Buffalo were mostly extinct but, in the high plains of Colorado, there were still small herds scattered about. The wind that came whispering over the mountains had a crisp coolness signifying a cold front was coming. Chet could see clouds in the distant so he decided to find a place to sit for the night.

The day had seemed like two, he could detect his own muscly odor and wondered if the rain may help with the smell. It had been weeks since he had seen civilization and he needed a bath.

His mind was drawn back to Mary, her soft brunette hair reverberated in his thoughts. He had to get this job done as soon as possible so he could get back to her.

Chet promised to buy the old Johnson place and then ask for Marys hand. Mary would have been fine if they lived with her parents for a time, but Chet would have none of it. This job would bring enough money to buy the property and a seed stock to get their life started proper.
